Property Review – Bumi Hills with its views over the inviting, rim flow pool and onto the massive lake was like a breath of fresh air after the dusty savannah of the African bush. The raised location of the lodge offers spectacular views right across the lake into Zambia and on the shore below us we could see herds of impala, hippos resting, and elephants cooling themselves in the water. The 10 lake-facing rooms are all immaculately appointed and very spacious. Bumi doesn’t do rustic, tented accommodation, it’s very much a sophisticated and stylish place. Each room includes a generous entrance hall, bedroom, balcony, bathroom, a separate outdoor shower, and the solid walls and doors mean bugs are kept to a minimum. While in Bumi we enjoyed two sunset boat cruises, in different directions, as well as a morning game drive and a night drive, late after dinner. Our guide, Maxwell, looked after us exceptionally well and was completely flexible to our needs and wishes. We relaxed on the various viewing decks, each revealing its own unique vista over the water and made the most of the delicious meals on offer. Top marks to the chef! It was the sunset boat cruises that really stood out for me. You won’t find many more spectacular sunsets than at Lake Kariba. Bumi Hills for me is all about the setting, the scenery and the lodge experience – a true relaxing feast for your senses.
