  1. Wonderful, relaxing stay - wished we could have stayed longer!

This lodge, run by Peter Dunning, is outstanding. My wife and I arrived by boat from the airport after a very long journey from London to be greeted by Peter and his team on the jetty. The level of personal service was exceptional, and we were treated so warmly by everyone. Our room was wonderful, with amazing views of the Zambezi looking towards Zambia. The food was excellent, too. Our butler, Obert, was kind, efficient and charming. As the property is small and intimate, guests are also able to cross the river to the companion lodge, River Lodge, which has a pool, gym and spa. I used the gym and my wife and I had spa treatments. Wifi in the rooms and the common area is very good. As both lodges are in the Zambezi National Park, wildlife roam through it all…we saw hippos, baboons and plenty of elephants. We had an amazing experience watching around 40 elephants on the island then set off for a swim across the Zambezi. Magical! There are daily sundowner cruises, and our guide, Keitho, was incredibly knowledgable about so many things. This was our first introduction to the Victoria Falls area and Zimbabwe, and we used this as a starting point to ‘settle in’ before heading to The Okavango in Botswana for safaris. I fully recommend this wonderful lodge. Congrats to Peter and his team…and thank you!

  2. Authentic!

We had such an authentic and luxurious stay at this lodge. Was great fun for our whole family. Highly recommended.

  3. Fantastic stay on the banks of the Zambezi with Hippos at breakfast time!

My wife and I had a fantastic three day stay at the Vic Falls Island lodge. The staff were amazing (special call out to Blessed our marvellous guide, Reeves the butler who anticipated whatever we needed and Feizal the hotel manager who helped me master my camera!). Beautiful room overlooking the river where we could see hippos in the morning, sunset cruises to see elephants, crocodiles, giraffes…and game drives to see the rest. Lovely food and nothing more we could have wanted (well maybe a heated plunge pool – it was a little chilly in the Zimbabwean winter!).

  4. Closest thing to Heaven

When we finally got through the border checks, we had a beautiful boat ride out the lodges, not really knowing what to expect. We were greeted by Peter Dunning, the Lodge Manager and his crew at the dock. We all gathered around Peter in a beautiful common area to be briefed on what to expect for the next 2 days while sipping refreshments. Then we were escorted to our rooms. That is when I almost cried. There were 10 of us and there were 5 cottages, so our group was the only folks on the island, besides the staff.
To say the rooms were stunning would be an understatement. Breathtaking! Magnificent! We walked along a boardwalk up to our lodge on stilts. The view was another breathtaking experience. Right on the river.
I was SO IMPRESSED with the architecture of these cottages. It seemed no expense was spared. The glass sliding doors to the deck were from floor to ceiling and when opened, tucked inside each segment, so there was absolutely no obstruction to your view.
You could see the rise of the mist from Victoria Falls from your deck. Simply wonderful.
Peter and his team were warm, kind, and attentive to every need. Always smiling and eager to please. The staff was equal to the surroundings – and that is saying a lot.
We took an evening river ride that was relaxing and pleasurable. The next day, a boat ride and car ride to the Falls. Wow! We went on a game drive and enjoyed the animals and plant life, as well as a view of the river from ground level.
