  1. Wonderful up close visit with Elephants

We had a fantastic visit at the Ivory Lodge. The staff was warm and friendly and made us feel like family. Sharing a large captain table with other guests gave us a chance to meet others from around the world and compare stories. Our guide Peter was exceptional, very knowledgeable , pleasant and professional. Our room was a tree house room which was set up with tent like sides and a fantastic view of the watering hole. Everything inside was modern and extremely comfortable. While it was chilly, heated mattress pads allowed the bed to very warm and cozy. At night, an elephant was no more than 10 yards from the deck, grazing. Without a doubt, the high point of staying at the Ivory Lodge was the elephants, who would come to the watering hole throughout the day but especially in the evenings. At night after dinner we looked out and saw at least 35 elephants of all ages walking down to the watering hole and having an evening of snacking and playing right in front of us! From our hideaway we were just yards away. The elephants were then followed by about 75 Cape buffalo, giving the area a feeling of THE popular hangout in Hwange! Having the opportunity to sit and watch these animals for over an hour was an experience I will never forget!

  2. Wonderfully Welcoming

The staff at this lodge was very personable and welcoming. The rooms had heavy canopy windows and there was a latch as a lock. I ended up sharing a room with my teen age daughter and my husband had his own room. The rooms themselves were a little weird – the bathrooms did not have doors. I ended up pinning a rather large scarf over the bathroom threshold for a little privacy. My husbands room was more strange in that the bathroom was almost completely open to the room. He didn’t mind it.

We had a very enjoyable trip. I would stay here again and would definitely pack my extra large scarf and safety pins. 🙂

  3. Wonderful

Wonderful facility – a safari dream – private rooms – a blind for a close look at animals as they come to drink – wonderful dinning experience and staff. Great location for Hwange National Park Safari drive with wine in the bush at sunset – however did not see an abundance of wildlife. Pool and WiFi available.
